Cornelius Cort (1530-1578) Inventor: Riccius Senessi Publisher: Antonius Carenzanus, Romae Collectors mark: On the back the hand drawn signature of Pierre Mariette and the dating 1669. This famous collector signed many pieces going trough his hands and it is very nice to have this time stamp. Technical: This is a very strong impression on strong laid paper, a bit thicker then the quality later used in Antwerp, this is a typical Italian paper. I would like to mention the blank text line so this is probably an early state which is confirmed by the exquisite printing condition. The print is trimmed on image border and remarginned.
